frequently
asked questions
For those who presently use or are considering using Shea butter for personal skin care and sensitive skin conditions, we thought we share with you the fact that there are two different kinds of techniques to make Shea butter. One kind is extracted with solvent and the other is expeller pressed by the use of water and heat as traditionally practiced by the natives of the origin of Shea butter. We make and process only pure traditional hand made expeller pressed Shea butter. The oil is a product made from the Shea nut alone. What do you mean by "hand made" ? Typically, traditional Shea butter is hand made. The nuts are picked by hand, cleaned by hand, roasted by hand, ground in mortars and pestles by hand, though using mechanical grinding mills is also common, the nut paste obtained is kneaded by hand, cooked and oil skimmed by hand. The expelled oil is pure, wholesome and is clarified by filtration for use in making of skin products. How do you clarify the Shea oil ? We clarify the oil by adding food grade earth which binds with water soluble fats and fatty acids which provide aroma and colour to the oil. The earth along with the bonded aroma and colour particles is filtered using paper cellulose filters and removed leaving clear wholesome shea oil which solidifies into shea butter at temperatures below 35 degrees F. We do NOT use solvents (Hexane, Acetone) of any kind in the production of our Shea butter. What vitamins can be found in Shea butter ? Our traditional Shea butter by nature is rich in vitamin E, a property that lengthens the life of the butter against rancidity. Typically natural Shea butter contains vitamins A, D, E, F. More than half of the Shea butter produced in the world
is consumed and used in oil blends, the manufacture of margarine, confectionery
products and cosmetics. In fact, Shea butter is used in the chocolate
industry as a match for cocoa butter. Recently, there has been an escalating
demand for Shea butter for use in the cosmetic industry. Shea butter
is used to produce premium, high quality natural body and skincare products
including bath soaps, lotions, creams and hair products. For severely
dry skin and skin ailments, as well as to help reduce wrinkles and age
perfectly, always turn to Shea butter. |
